Virginia is one of the oldest states in the country, and it has one of the most distinguished histories. From being the site of the Jamestown Colony to being the homeplace of George Washington, Virginia has had its share of famous events and people. One of Virginia’s nicknames is even “Mother of Presidents and the Mother of Statesmen.” Cities like Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Arlington, Richmond, Roanoke, and Portsmouth have their own histories and attractions to the history-minded person.

In Virginia you will also find a varied geography, and so it makes sense that there would be diverse animals and pests in the state. Scientists divide Virginia into five geological regions: Tidewater, Piedmont, blue Ridge Mountains, Ridge and Valley, and Cumberland Plateau. Each of these regions comes with its own set of animals. But some pests common to all of Virginia include the Emerald Ash Borer, cockroach, ticks, ants, and fleas.
