West Virginia is known for our location smack-dab in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains. This gorgeous mountain range is home to a number of animals, such as the wild boar, deer, bear, wild turkeys and bobwhite quail. Because of the temperate and wet climate of West Virginia, you will also have to deal with mosquitoes and ticks when you visit. Cockroaches, spiders, wasps, and rodents also frequent the state.
We may be small and less densely populated than our larger brother to the east, but West Virginia has is a lot to do for the adventure-minded person. For example, you could visit Charleston or Huntington, our two major cities. Or you could choose to hike the Appalachian Trail, which runs through the state. If you are someone who loves beautiful scenery and nature, then West Virginia is the state for you.
